California, here we come!!!
Our Summer Adventures in the Sunny State
Hello Everybody!
Well, it is already Christmas and I ask myself what we have been doing since the last update. I suppose the most exciting event was our vacation in sunny California. Lucy and I went alone this time, leaving Raphie to renovate the house. A very dangerous situation, letting 2 girls on the loose in countless shopping malls with credit cards in our hot little hands. I must say, we showed considerable restraint, considering our financial limitation, excluding the absolutely unnecessary (but wonderful) Mickey Mouse apron and kitchen accessories I bought on a whim in Disneyland, and Lucy’s obsessive stuffed animal frenzy. Fortunately , due to a heel spur und hairline fracture, I was on crutches and limited in my mobility–which prevented us from accessing too many shops.
It was great to see old friends like Dee Dee, Jeff, Raelyn, Alexa, among others, and of course, Heidi and her "fam". We visited the San Fransisco/Berkeley end of our family, Jean and Ranu, as well. It was great visiting with them and we were able to do some sightseeing, as well. Lucy and hobbled around Fisherman’s Warf/Pier 39, doing all the touristy things, like going on a 3-D Sponge Bob simulated roller coaster. We were even involved in a crime scene–our first time getting off the Bart, Lucy was almost run over by a thief running from the police. He bumped into her during his flight and it actually slowed him down, enabling the police to snap him and hand cuff him. To my relief, Lucy was not at all phased. She thought it was a great story to tell her friends in Germany. That is my tough little cookie.
We also spent a good deal of time with uncle Chuck and Evelyn in Simi Valley. Chuck is in the last stages of Parkinson’s but is doing amazingly well, all things considered. It was bitter sweet for us to be there with him and we were impressed by Aunt Evelyn’s loving care. Chuck is lucky to have her.
We also saw Nancy Brandt-Ericksen in Solvang and received a personal tour of the Elverhoy Museum (Aunt Patt's House) from the museum director. Childhood memories.
A big highlight was visiting long time friend Maya, who I hadn’t seen in ages, and her fabulous husband Jesus (That boy can cook!) and 4 year old son Veejay (adorable, by the way). We spent 3 whole days in Disneyland and poor Maya and Jesus had to wheel me around the whole time–although we didn’t have to wait in most of the lines!!!! The kids almost killed each other a few times, but who knows, things could be a lot different in 15 years!!! Maya, just think, if they marry, we could be related!!! Don’t panic.... we have got some time!!
During the trip, my health, which had been very bad for the last three years, made a huge turn around. This made us wonder if something in the house was making me sick. The idea to remove possible hazardous refuse between the floor boards, was Raphie's. Most of it is gone now and I am doing so much better--I can eat almost everything and have no muscle cramping. Just going to a restaurant again, was a major deal and being to eat jogurt with fruit-- what a pleasure. I am back to a normal weight and am quite happy!
For more new, browse a bit further-- until then...once more in German!!!
